Performing Visible Resilience Exhibition + Performance
Thursday, May 31st, 2018
7:00 – 9:30pm
SHOW DESCRIPTION
Performing Visible Resilience is an immersive visual arts exhibition and performance featuring the stories and works of LGBTQ Asian Pacific American artists.
The photography exhibit created Mia Nakano features larger than life intimate photographs from the Visibility Project, a national series dedicated to the queer Asian Pacific American women and transgender community. Nakano pairs her portraits with curated selections from the Resilience Archives Queer History Tour, a community powered archive of LGBTQ APAs in the Bay Area.
As the culmination of Performing Resilience, an 8-week workshop, Queer APA writers and performers share their stories of resilience. Directed by award-winning performance artist, Kat Evasco, this live performance highlights humor and history from an intergenerational cast spanning four decades of stories. From Queer APA movement founder and trans rights educator, Willy Wilkinson, to artist and doula Jewel Buchanan-Boon born 4 generations down from American Chattel Slavery. Our performers include Amy Rios-Richardson, Antmen Mendoza, Cesar Cabades, Emily Park, Jojo Ty, Lisa Hu, Maricar Bamba, Mia Nakano, and Un Jung Lim.
This evening is a multidisciplinary event where you can experience history through storytelling, walk through a photographic archive, and support queer trans APA artists.
